Abstract

1.Friends, People are lost in confusion and depression at some point of the life time.
2.Be a yogi to reduce depression.
3.Who is yogi? Or what is Yoga?
4.‘Yoga Chitavriti Nirodah’
5.By practice and detachment, we control the mind.
6.Ego, attachments, greed, jealousy and anger are controlling monkey like mind.
7.Attachment to things or persons causes ego and jealousy.
8.Comparison causes jealousy. Love reduces jealousy as said in Christianity. ‘Love thy neighbor.’
9.Modesty reduces ego and thereby anger gets reduced.
10.Still, mind goes to past, present or future. It can be trained to forget past,
think little about future and live in present. Positive aspects of past is pleasant
experiences and of future it hopes. Hopes and pleasant experiences
help to control the mind and silence it.

Prof K Subramanyam, Dean, Division of Yoga and Humanities, has a specialization in English Literature (American and lndo-Anglian as optionals) and Philosophy (Gandhian Philosophy - optional). He is presently the Honorary Adviser, Vivekananda College, Tiruvekadam, Madurai District. He has been a Member, NAAC peer team. He has authored 14 books on various topics including books on Education. He has presented and published a large number of papers on socially relevant and spiritual topics. He is a prolific speaker with an ability to weave magic with his words, with a capacity to talk to people at all levels.
