AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

1. RESEARCH
• Understanding the neurophysiological differences between the states of the wakeful mind (mentioned above), based on traditional yoga texts, to understand the dimensions of consciousness.
• Determining which parts of the brain are involved in meditation based on the recordings of evoked potentials and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
• Comparing the sleep structure of meditators with non-meditators using polysomnography.

2. TRAINING
The center would aim at carrying out a one-month annual training program on the ‘Basic understanding of yoga techniques and training in neurophysiological techniques relevant to yoga research’ for graduates in alternate medicine and post-graduates in psychology.

3. DISSEMINATION
The findings of the research would be disseminated in the form of hand-outs, videos, and booklets in Hindi, English and the regional language to make the findings available to the public. This would be in addition to communication of research findings to scientific journals and also patents, if any.
