BRIEF SYNOPSIS FOR PRESS FEATURE

"Geethanjali" Music festival was stated in the year 2006 and it was flagged off by the Governor H E Sri T N Chaturvedi at the ISKCON Temple Bangalore. The name "Geethanjali" was derived by the inspiration of Rabindranath Tagores great poetry collections named as Geethanjali.

It also means Geethegalu in Music repertory M S was a great artiste of this country whose contributions to music are everlasting and ever green for generations to come He legendary Sri Venkateshwara Suprabhatam and Sri Vishnu Sahasranam and Annamayya compositions have enriched our Indian classical Karnataka Music even to this day

Sri Lalithakala Academy Foundation Mysore well known for its innovative projects was founded in 1976 at Mysore with a team of dedicated art lovers of Mysore It was inaugurated by Padmavibhusahna Smt Rukminidevi founder of Kalakshetra Chennai who also presented the great epic Ramayana dance ballet as the inaugural show Since then the Academy is presenting annual "Natyanajali” dance festival and an annual award of Lalithakala Ratna was instituted to recognize the services and contributions of eminent dancers -Art critics- and organizations promoting classical art forms

To explore the platform for young talented artistes who needed good stage performances the Regional Unity Music concert was introduced during the December music festival at Chennai in the year 1996. The artistes from Karnataka and Tamilnadu are invited to are performing annual festival.

Mrs Rani Satish (former Minister of Kannada and Culture, Karnataka) inaugurated this project. Smt M S Subbulakshmi was conferred the title of Lalithakala Ratna by Mrs Rani Satish at her residence in Kotturpuram, Chennai. It as so great of the Legendary artiste Smt M S Subbulakshmi, she herself welcomed the Minister and the team of Lalithakala Academy Foundation and gladly received the award which inspired the academy. Since then after the sad demise of Smt MS, a music festival in her memory was launched in the year 2006 by H E T N Cheturvedi, Governor of Karnataka. It was also decided to constitute an award in the name of M S Subbulakshmi during the Geetanjali Festivals. The first Sangeetha Ratna award was conferred on Countries well known flutist Sikkle Sisters who were also close to MSS. The Second Years Sangeetha Ranta was given to Violin Maestro Dr T N Krishanan in the Year 2007. In the Year 2008 this award was conferred to the Daughter of MSS Mrs Radha Vishwanathan, who was inseparable during the concerts of MSS.

The academies latest project is classical music and dance therapy in Yoga for Health. Swami Vivekananda Yoga University the Unique lone Research based Institution situated at the outskirts of Bengaluru Near Bannerghatta, Jigani, Manchenahalli Cross.

Dr Nagendra, the Vice chancllor of the University, who was earlier working NASA, USA, is now the Vice Chancellor of the University. The University has got large number of research publication and has treated several thousands for different ailments at their Arogyadhama inside the university campus under the guidance of Dr R Nagarathna. It was decided by the Academy to collaborate with this great institution to take up the Music and Dance Therapy under the Department of Yoga and Humanities. It is also contemplated to open the course leading up to Doctorate. The academy has opened a branch at this University to cooperate the project. Sri BSS Rao, the Secretary of the Academy has involved in promotional activities as a part of this therapy.

The current years Geetanjali festival –2009 will be inaugurated by H E the Governor of Chattisgarh Sri ESL Narasimhan. The academy has also instated some awards for the human service under the title of SEVA RATNA from year 2008. The First such award was confirmed to Smt Lakshmi Aunty, the Founder of the Yoga University, that was earlier known as Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana. The award was conferred by Sri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat. This year Dr B S Yeddyurappa, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka will be conferred with title of JANASEVA RATNA for his unique contribution to people of Karnataka.
