Medicos to learn yoga
Bangalore, Saturday, June 2, 2007 : If the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has its way, the doctors of the state would soon be giving a dose of yoga with pills. Do not be surprised if the doctors prescribe asanas and pranayamas from now on!
The RGUHS on Friday signed an MOU with the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYAS) to train medical professors, lecturers, MBBS, Ayurveda and Homeopathy students in yoga. The MOU was signed by the Vice Chancellor, RGUHS, P S Prabhakaran and the Vice Chancellor, SVYASA, Dr H R Nagendra.
Later, talking to media persons Dr Prabhakaran said, we want to introduce yoga in all streams of medical science viz. Allopathy, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Unani and other Indian systems of medicine. "In Ayurveda, people are familiar with the good effect of yoga, but we would like to see other doctors practicing and prescribing it," said Dr Prabhakaran.
