Dr. Sampath completed a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mysore and followed it with an M. Engg in Power Engineering from Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore. He then worked at Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, where he developed an ingenious pulse jet heating device.
Sampath completed a Ph.D. in Combustion at University of Saskatchewan and then joined Pratt & Whitney Canada as a Combustion Engineer.
Dr. Sampath is now the Manager for Combustion and Emissions at Pratt and Whitney Canada (PWC). He is also a Senior Fellow for combustion at PWC. During his 39 years at PWC, Dr. Sampath has been exposed to all the engine families at PWC with applications to Turbofans, Turboprops, Turboshafts, APU’s and Industrial Turbines.
He has been involved with aircraft engine emissions during the entire period at PWC and his contributions have been recognized as contributing to the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Dr. Sampath has also received an Honorary Pioneer Award for lifetime achievements and contributions to Combustion and Emissions at P&WC. While working at PWC, Dr. Sampath completed his Diploma in Management and then onto an MBA at McGill. Sam has over 30 publications to his credit and over 12 Patents. He has also been an adviser to Canadian Government during ICAO (CAEP) meetings on emissions and the co-chair member of CAEWG (Canadian Aviation Environmental Working Group) from industry, research and government organizations.
Dr. Sampath is a member of Ontario Professional Engineering Association, member of IGTI Fuels and Combustion committee and India Business Council
in Toronto on energy issues.
Dr. Sampath is also a member of International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Association (ICCAIA) on environmental issues. Dr. Sampath has recently been appointed to be a Scientific Director for Green Aviation Research and Development Network (GARDN) to focus on long and short term technology needs of aviation industries in Canada and opportunities for Research fundings. Dr. Sampath has also contributed to the latest version of Hand book on Fluids.
