Abstract
Aim
The aim of the study is to examine the Stroop effect in deaf and dumb children after the yogic practice of nadi-shuddhi.
Design
21 deaf and dumb students were part of a self-as-control, pre-post study. The students underwent a yoga module of suryanamaskar, breathing exercises, various basic asanas (balancing posture), pranayamas (nadi-shuddhi and kapalbhati) along with DRT.
Method
The parameter assessed was the Stroop test. The Stroop test was administered on the first day after each of the nadi-shuddhi and breath awareness sessions and twenty-one days later.
Result
The comparison of the nadi-shuddhi results for the first and last day was not significant (p = 0.839). The comparison of the breath-awareness results for the first and the last day was statistically significant (p = 0.034).
Conclusion
The Stroop effect seems to be influenced by breath awareness rather than the practice of nadi-shuddhi.
