Abstract

Aim
To determine whether alterations in random events, as measured by a Random event generator (REG), occur calibration of Navaratri puja.
Design and setting
Our study used a Random Event Generator (REG) which was kept at 12 meters from the site of the Puja to evaluate its effects on the consciousness-field. The protocol to measure the effect of Navaratri Puja on the REG was as follows: pre-Puja baseline measurements were taken on previous day of Navaratri puja in the Puja location; similar measurements were taken on days 1 to 9 (during Puja); post-Puja measurements were taken after completion of Navaratri. On day 1 to days 9, different Puja activities took place.
Results
During the all 10 days of the Navratri Festival significant influences on the REG were seen during various sessions as compared to pre puja with no event. The maximum readings occurred on: The 8th day while the Asthami was being performed. This may be due to ‘Yajña’ as performed. It was found that on the 8th day REG was significantly influenced (p<0.05) for 1498 sec, which was longer duration of time compared to the other days.
Conclusions
A REG produced greater than chance excursions more often than control values REG was influenced perhaps due to positive emotions prevailing at the location of homa.
