Recent studies have shown that stress play a major role in the regulation of glucose metabolism. R. In recent year several epidemiological studies have shown that life stress play an important role in the prevalence of type-2 diabetes mellitus. Life style modification yoga relaxation, meditation and pranayama have shown beneficial effects in the management of type-2 diabetes mellitus. Several pro-inflammatory cytokines have shown elevated level in the pre-diabetic. Intervention of plant based drugs yogic practices play an important role in the overall management of type-2 diabetes mellitus and severe diabetes also. In addition to the conventional drug yoga play an important role in the prevention of diabetes associated complications. In the present study we have selected one of the Indian plants Salacia oblonga in the prevention and management of type-2 diabetes mellitus and associated complications.
