PREFACE
We are glad to bring out this Proceedings of the Conference containing the selected papers of the 5th International Conference on 'Frontiers in Yoga Research & Applications' held from 16th to 19th December 1999. The conference was focussed on 'Spiritual Dimension of Health'. The discussions and the paper presentations were oriented to give an indepth perspective of the definition of spirituality, tools of measurements and scientifically validated data presentations. Researchers have used various techniques of yoga and Vedanta oriented towards raising the consciousness level of the individual for prevention, treatment of many stress related ailments and for promotion of positive health. The themes for the three days of the conference were :
a) 'Yoga and Consciousness as the basis for spiritual dimension of health'
b) 'Application of Yoga for promotion of positive health of students, women, executives etc', and
c) 'Medical applications of Yoga including clinical and physiological understanding of higher states of consciousness'.
The spiritual dimension of health was the topic on the 19th December for the panel discussion which led to the preparation of the resolutions and recommendations to the WHO. The quality of life questionnaire which is to be submitted to WHO by the team of experts from Bharat headed by Dr. Srinivasmurthy of NIMHANS Bangalore may consider and include concepts from these recommendations.
This also contains papers presented in the post conference symposia of 21 Dec 1999 on 'Techniques in cognitive neurosciences'.
These included three key note addresses on the three days of scientific sessions, about 25 invited talks, about 35 oral free paper presentations followed by daily panel discussions on the theme of the day.
