PART-I

CONCEPT OF MÜLA BANDHA ACCORDING TO YOGA AND SPIRITUAL LORE
This report aims to present a systematic description about the müla bandha.
Today, however, the necessity and demand for powerful practices by which we can regain balance and stability in this modern stressful age has stirred the hearts of the spiritual masters to release the higher and more potent yogic techniques for whoever wants and needs them.

Bandhas are the Haöha Yoga practices can be described as psychic knots. One can attain the higher spiritual state through the practices of the Bandhas. There are three classic Bandhas: Müla, Uòòiyäna, and Jälandhara bandha. When practised together they are called Tri-Bandhas.  There are various forms of Yogic Mudräs. This report attempts to give a brief summary of bandhas given in Gheraëòa Samhitä, Haöharatnävali, Haöha Yoga Praòépikä and çivä Samhitä.

This report commences with some general ideas about müla bandha.  Then the important texts which talk about Müla Bandha and the different Bandhas as also mentioned in these texts are given. The aim of the müla bandha is also mentioned. The report gives the concept of Müla Bandha found in Gheraëòa Samhitä, Haöharatnävali, Haöha Yoga Praòépikä and çivä Samhitä in Saàskåt. The transliteration of the Saàskåt and the meaning of the verses are also presented.

SUMMARY & CONCLUSION

Bandhas are internal energy valves which when activated allow the energy to flow through the area activating the dormant potential of spirit while embodied they have been richly dealt in our yogic scriptures they have their own neurological endocrinological effect. The subtle präëic effect of the bandhas is now used as therapy.
However it has its own limitations with the benefits far exceeding the limitations, the present world is finally looking up to this yogic practice for getting rid of physical and mental problems.

ABSTRACT

 PART-II

EFFICACY OF THREE DIFFERENT INTEGRATED YOGA MODULES ON CREATIVITY IN SCHOOL CHILDREN (9 TO 12 YEARS)
The present study was conducted to compare the effect of three different integrated yoga modules on creativity in 224 school students of both genders, aged between 9 to 12 years. After stratifying for sex, subjects were randomly allocated to three groups which were assigned to Intelligent Quotient-specific yoga module (IQ), creativity- specific yoga module (CV), or physical stamina- specific yoga module (PS). All the groups practiced their on specific yoga modules for 10 days. Creativity was assessed using a paper pencil test of divergent production, based on Guilford’s model of intelligence (1950) or Structure of Intellect or SOI model that measures distinct creative abilities. The subjects were evaluated on creativity at the beginning and the last day of the camp. The results suggest that all three groups showed a significant improvement at the creativity task scores following 10 days of their respective intervention (p=0.001,two tailed, Paired ‘t’ test). Hence the present study shows the efficacy of an integrated yoga module in improving the creativity scores, irrespective of yoga modules given to improve special faculties.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

1. The present study was done to assess the efficacy of three different integrated yoga modules on Guilford’s model of figural creativity which had four facets i.e., fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration. There was significant improvement in all three groups in all facets (p<0.01).The magnitude of change was 27%, 34%, 39% in PS, IQ and CV groups respectively. The CV module of yoga seems to be better than PS and IQ although the p values on multiple comparison between groups has not reached significant levels.
2. Based on the percentage change boys showed in all groups’ better improvement as compared to girls except in IQ & PS in originality component. Hence the above study shows that IYM has a role to play in the improvement of creativity.
The results suggest that the yoga improves creativity in all three groups (meant for IQ, PS and CV) may be due to the anxiety reducing effect of yoga.
