Motivation according to Yoga and Spiritual Lore
Ancient concept of motivation is that we should live in the present. We are not supposed to live in future. The entire wisdom concept is based on what we are going to do and achieve in future. The theory of motivation comes from ‘Bhagvat Gétä’, which says ‘karmanyevädhikäraste mä phaleñu kadäcana’. This is the basic theory of motivation in India. We intend exploring insights in ancient Indian wisdom on motivation in this report. A study on motivation involves: (a) Mainspring of behaviour; (b) Modification of behavior to realize desired goals. Ancient Indian wisdom as contained in our Çästra has laid down the basic goals of human existence. True motivation is self-sustaining, undisturbed by worldly up and downs. Deriving sustenance from within, the truly motivated person is not dependent upon external sources for support. An integration of the forces of knowledge and informed actions is a necessity today to ensure that in the longrun term there is peace and prosperity.
