Objective:
This course seeks to introduce the students to the area of organization’s strategic management – a field of enquiry that focuses on the organization as whole and its interactions with its environment.

Definition of Strategic Management, Need andbenefits of Strategic Management, Current challenges to Strategic Management, What makes a decision strategic, Initiation of Strategy, Triggering Events
Unit 2:
Levels of Strategy, Strategic intent, Mission, Vision and Purpose, Strategic Management Process, External Scanning, Internal Scanning, Strategic Alternatives- Grand Strategies, Expansion , Stability, Strategic Focus: Building a multi step focus, responding to change
Unit 3:
Strategy formulation:
Corporate Strategy, Ansoff model, SWOT analysis, Strategic choice models – BCG matrix, Porter’s model, Core competence, Dynamic capability etc
Unit 4:
Strategy implementation, Issues in strategy implementation:
Project, Structural, Functional, System and Behavioral implementation. Corporate culture, Leadership styles, Personal values
Unit 5:
Strategy evaluation and control:
Strategic evaluation process, Strategic control techniques, Balanced scorecard
Unit 6:
New mantras in strategic management:
METRIC analysis, CINE Matrix for Strategic Gearing, SPOT analysis, SWAN model, Forward engineering, VSP (Vision-Strategy-Purpose) yantra, Grounded praxis approach to strategic management, Linking Strategy with ODM (Organization Development & Management), Holistic Performance Scorecard (HPSc), Character Competence of the Corporation.
