Objectives:
Course objective is to make students familiar with the emergence of the idea of Indian Management and its relationship and position with respect to various emerging perspectives in the field of management.
Course content
Unit 1:
India as a matrix society, Creativity view of Indian history, Essence of Indian ethos: Absorption, Integration, Synthesis and moving ahead, Emergence of Indian Management as a new idea in the era ‘Holistic Globalization’, Foundations of Indian Management in different intellectual traditions and indigenous sources such as Arthasastra, business traditions and social wisdom including folklore wisdom and other sources of tacit knowledge in business and management.
Unit 2:
Importance of Indian Management in knowledge economy, Knowledge seeking ethos and its significance in knowledge economy, Vanijaya ethics and spirit of enterprise, Udyoga as yoga, Indian concepts of loksangraha, yogakshema and shubh-labh for creating socially responsible corporate world, Indian model of corporate development and ethical leadership. Trusteeship model as futuristic vision for development of business organizations.
Unit 3:
Indian models of holistic persons and thereby holistic managers, Basket of needs & hierarchy of deeds, harm minimization and harmonization, holistic happiness, Balancing Purusharthas through holistic view of life, Indian management models for humanizing and spiritualizing work places: OSHA model, Theory K, Negergy-Synergy Grid, Nurturant-Task leadership style, Karma yoga and Enlightened leadership, KT Grid and KTG Yantra, Corporate Rishi, Yin Trinity model for creating synergy at work place, Yoga ethic and spirit of self-evolution, Spiritual praxis and Human Quality Development (HQD) for spiritualizing work places, Self management & self development.
Unit 4:
Indian Management and its relationship with new perspectives in management such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Good Governance, Environmental concerns, Gender issues, Human values, Ethical concerns, Overcoming cognitive dominance etc.
Unit 5:
Study of healthy practices related to culture,leadership, social responsibility and experience of successful Indian organizations such as Amul, Dabbawalls, SEWA, Tatas, Birlas, Infosys, Wipro etc. Development of Indian Business and Indian Entrepreneurship since independence: Indian Corporates and Business Groups, Capillary action model and Grassroots Institutional Development (Grid) models, Internationalization of Indian Business & Indian Companies.
Unit 6:
Future directions for Indian Management & Management Perspectives: Yoga in management, Vedanta in management, Practical Spirituality in management, HQD (Human Quality Development) in management, From grassroots to global routes, Convergence between Western and Eastern management thought for holistic development through ‘compassionate and sustainable development’ and the vision of sacro-civic society.
