Objectives:
To acquaint the students with basic accounting, costing and financial management concepts for decision making purposes. Course will provide an overview of the important concepts in these fields.
Course content:
Unit 1: Accounting;
Principles, concepts & conventions, accounting equation, capital and revenue, rules of debit and credit, cash book and ledger, trial balance, bank reconciliation statement, final accounts-P & L A/C, Balance Sheet, Techniques of financial analysis, Ratio analysis, Definition and scope of Auditing.
Unit 2:
Introduction to cost accounting. Understanding and classifying cost, element of cost, component of total cost, classification of costs, cost sheet, introduction to management reporting and control system.
Unit 3:
Managerial costing and CVP analysis-meaning and difference between absorption costing and marginal costing, marginal cost, utility of marginal costing and its limitations, segregation of semi variable cost, BEP. Profit, Volume.
Unit 4:
Introduction to Financial Management, Working Capital Management, Operating leverage, Determinants of capital structure, Introduction to Functioning of Capital Markets, Stock market in India-Origin, growth, function and role
