Dr HR Nagendra is the Vice Chancellor of SVYASA Yoga University. He has been the guiding force behind the VYASA movement.
Dr HR Nagendra holds PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IISc, Bangalore
After receiving his doctorate in 1968, he served as faculty of IISc in Department of Mechanical Engineering. He then went to Canada as Post Doctoral Research Fellow in the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1970
From here, he moved to NASA Marshall Space Flight Centre, USA as Post-Doctoral Research Associate in 1971 and moved to Engineering Science Laboratory, Harvard University, USA as a Consultant in 1972. He served as Visiting Staff at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London later.
In 1975, he joined Vivekananda Kendra, a service mission as a whole-time worker. Director of Training Centre, Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari.
Between 1975 and 1993, he served as the All India Secretary, Yoga Shiksha Vibhag, Vivekanand Kendra, Kanyakumari and between 1979-1986 also as Secretary, Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Therapy & Research Committee (VK YOGAS). Between 1993 and 2000, he was the All India Vice-President of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari.
From 1986 to the present, he is the Secretary of Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore and the Director of Indian Yoga Institute, Prashanti Kutiram.
From 2000 to the present, he has been serving as President, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, Bangalore and from 2002 to present, he serves as the Vice Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana, the Yoga University in Bangalore
He has published 30 Research Papers in Engineering and 60 papers on Yoga
He has authored and coauthored 35 books on Yoga.

- Dr R Nagarathna, an MD and FRCP (Edin.), Dean, Division of Yoga and Life Sciences combines her medical knowledge with her deep knowledge and experience of yoga as the head of the 180-beds residential yoga therapy health home at VYASA. She has established yoga therapy protocols for asthma, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, digestive track problems, and cancer. She has numerous clinical publications on yoga therapy. She owns a number of awards like “Vidya Varenya, Woman of Excellence, Dr P S Shankar Vaidya Shree, Patanjali Award, Karnataka Kalpavalli” etc.

- Prof N V C Swamy, PhD in Civil Engineering, Dean, Division of Yoga and Physical Sciences. He is the former director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He has been the curriculum advisor for the Indian Yoga Institute at VYASA. In his teachings, he harmonizes modern science with the ancient Indian science of the Upanishads and Yoga texts. He has 4 books on yoga, 50 research papers in Engineering, 5 in Yogic Sciences and has been guiding 5 PhD students. He is also the Dean for Academic Studies
- Dr Shirley Telles, MBBS, has a MPhil & PhD in Neurophysiology and DSc in Yoga. As the Head of the Department of Yoga and Bio-sciences, Division of Life Sciences, SVYASA & Joint Director of Research VYASA, International, she has, to her credit, seventy research papers in national and internationally indexed journals besides six books. She guides the research students at SVYASA and has been responsible for development of research laboratories in the campus. Her academic awards include a prize from the John Templeton Foundation, USA, as one of 10 awards under a scheme "Creative Research Ideas in Neurobiology", for an essay "Neurophysiology of Mental Emancipation" (January 2002); Fulbright travel grant award, 1998, for a project: "Response to external auditory stimuli during meditation: study of evoked potentials and fMRI", at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA, August 1998 to February 1999; Indian Council of Medical Research- young scientist award for "excellence in biomedical research", 1993; Indian Science Congress Association- young scientist award for research in physiology, 1991. She is a reviewer for 7 international and 3 national indexed journals.
- Swami Visharadananda, ADVISOR, Division of Yoga and Spirituality. After intensive study and practices of Vedánta and Yoga in Himálayas in the traditional way under various yoga and spiritual masters of the spiritual lore for 20 years, he joined Arsha Vidya Gurukulam. Coimbatore in 1985. Swami Dayananda Saraswati gave him Sannyasa and posted him to Rishikesh as a Vedantic teacher. He has been teaching Vedanta as well as practicing what he has been preaching since then in Rishikesh and Hardwar (UP). Since the last 7 years, he has been the resident Acarya of Prashanti Kutiram teaching and guiding students on the path of spirituality and Vedanta. As a master of Samskrta, Prakarana Granthas, Shat Darshanas, and Prasthana Traya, he has been a great inspiration to all the students.
- Dr Rámachandra G Bhat, PhD, Dean, Division of Yoga and Spirituality. He brought up in the traditional way in Samskrta and completed his Vidwat in Samskrta (the highest degree in the Samskrta education equivalent to a Master’s degree). He also went through the conventional degree, Master’s degree in the same subject including PhD from Mysore University. He started teaching in Janaseva Vidyashala, a residential school near Bangalore and developed many novel teaching techniques for effective communication. During his stay he also read and mastered various systems of philosophy: Advaita, Dvaita and Vishistadvaita and gained insights into the Self. His practices to transform himself to fathom the higher dimensions of Reality took him to the path of yoga and spiritual lore. In 1994 he left the job and founded Veda Vijnána Gurukulam in Channena Hally with the objective of training young students for 6 years in Vedas including Upaniúads in the traditional way in a Gurukula setup. Under his guidance as the Director, the institution also grown steadily to the current size of 40 students. He has participated in numerous Samskrta, philosophical conferences in different parts of the country and is involved in active research and published various articles and papers in the journals.
- Dr R Venkataram, (PhD in Thermal Engineering), Registrar, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana. He was Professor, Dept of Mech Engg, BES College of Engineering, Fifteen Years teaching experience at B I T, Bangalore. Assistant Professor, Dept. Mech.Engg. & Director, Industrial Consultancy & Research Centre Bangalore Institute of Technology. More than 13 paper presented in National and International Symposiums. He holds a membership in different institutions like Member, Institute of Engineers (India), Member, combustion Institute (Indian Section) etc.,
- Shri T Mohan, MSc in Yoga, the Secretary of VYASA, is also the Ex Registrar of SVYASA. He has been training Yoga teachers in Prashanti and outside since 1983.
- Smt Subhadra Devi, YTIC, has a MA in Anthropology. She is a senior Yoga teacher and now the faculty in SVYASA. She has trained along with T Mohan, hundreds of yoga instructors all over the globe.
- Shri N V Raghuram, BE (Civil) is International Coordinator and senior yoga teacher of SVYASA. He has given thousands of lectures on Yoga, conducted hundreds of workshops and trained hundreds of yoga instructors round the globe.
