PHYSIOLOGY & BIOCHEMISTRY

Exam Duration: 3 Hrs

Part -1: (50 hours)
Physiology
a. Introduction to elementary study of human physiology,definition and subdivisions.
b. Cells – Structure and function.
c. Structure and physiology of support system:  skin, bones, muscles and joints, skeletal muscles, smooth muscles, cardiac muscle, hip musculature, knee musculature, ankle and foot musculature.
d. Respiratory system - Introduction, mechanics of breathing, regulation of respiration, organisation of respiratory centers.
e. Elementary knowledge of functions and mechanism of regulation of endocrine system and reproductive system.
f. The Nervous system, general sensory system, skeletal motor system, special sensory system.
g. Excretory System - Structure of Kidneys, filtration and role of acid base balance of body fluids.
h. Cardiovascular system:
i. Structure and properties of the heart and cardiac cycle.
ii. Mechanism and functional characteristics of systematic and Pulmonary circulation.
iii. Cardiac output, heart sounds, blood pressure and pulse.
i. Digestive System: Process of normal digestion and physiology of various digestive secretions.
j. Defence mechanisms and physiology and functions of special senses.

Part - 2:(40 hours)
Biochemistry
Elementary knowledge of the following topics will be imparted:-
a. Metabolism including Carbohydrate, Protein and Fat Metabolism.
b. Nucleic Acid and Genetics including genetic disorders.
c. Electrolytes and water balance in human body.
d. Clinical biochemistry methods, implications in diagnosis and evaluation of disease process.
e. Cell membrane, structure and function.
f. Oxidative stress.
