PATANJALA’S YOGA SUTRAS

Chapter 1: (20 hours)
Samädhi Päda
i. Concept of Samädhi according to Pataïjali.
ii. Types and nature of Samädhi in Yoga Sütra: samprajïäta, asamprajïäta, sabéja and Nirbéja Samädhi, Difference between Samäpattis and Samädhi.
iii. Concept of Éçvara in Samädhi Päda.
iv. Different ways of cultivating the mind.


Chapter 2: (20 hours)
Sädhana Päda
i. Kriyä-yoga, Theory of Kleças.
ii. Nature of Dåñöä and Dåçya and means to eliminate the kleças.
iii. Pataïjali’s view of pain & sufferings, fourfold strategy for overcoming sufferings.
iv. Añöäìga Yoga: Yama, Niyama, Äsana, Präëäyäma, Pratyähära, Dhäraëä, Dhyäna, and Samädhi.

Chapter 3: (5 hours)
Vibhüti Päda
i. Introduction to dhäraëä, dhyäna, samädhi and samyama.
ii. Samyama on – pariëäma traya, knowledge of bhüta, åta and paricitta jïäna.
iii. Samyama on – maitri, sürya, Candra, näbhicakra, pratibhä, hådaya, udäna, samäna and their benefits.
iv. Attainments of Divya çrotra, Äkäça Gamana, Bhütajaya, Aëimä Ädi siddhis, Indriyajaya and Käyäjaya.


Chapter 4: (5 hours)
Kaivalya Päda
i. Introduction to Siddhi, Jatyantara Pariëäma, Nirmäna citta, Karma, Väsanä, Småti and saàskära.
ii. Support of Väsanä, Guëa and its’ existence. Västu.: Jïäta, Ajïäta of Västu, Quality of ever known Puruña.
iii. Non-self illumination of Buddhi and its’ function. Dharmamegha Samädhi and infinite knowledge.
iv. Mutation of Guëa, Karma, Pratipraùava and Kaivalya.

Chapter 5: (5 hours)
Pariëamas and the Personality Transformation
i. The critical analysis of the three pariëämas.
ii. The pariëämas as the tool for transformation.
iii. The pariëämas and the higher states of consciousness.
iv. The discussion of pariëämas in the light of psychology.

Chapter 6: (5 hours)
Añöa-Siddhis, Para-Normal Phenomenon and Spiritual Transformation
i. A critical discussion on añöa-siddhis.
ii. A study of para-normal phenomenon.
iii. A comparative study of siddhis and para-normal experiences.
iv. Spiritual psychosis and spiritual transformation.
