Chapter 1: (15 hours)
Vedic Legends, Itihása vs Purána, Ramáyana and Mahábhárata: Structure, tradition, and dates. Relation to Vedic culture. Concept of Avatára. Purásas: Ůaiva, Vaiúďava and Ůakta; number, authorship and contents.

Chapter 2: (15 hours)
Historical and scientific information. Continuity of culture through story telling: Harikathá. Concept of Dharma and the two epics. Tčrtha-yátra in Puráďas. Concept of Bhárata-khaďăa as a religious symbol.
