Chapter 1:(10 hours)
Biochemistry
1. Metabolism-digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids.
2. Carbohydrate metabolism-glycogenolysis, glycogenolysis and kerb’s cycle, glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, citric acid cycle, glyconeogenesis, metabolism of fructose and galactose, regulation of metabolic pathways, disorders of carbohydratic metabolism, regulation of blood sugar, glucose tolerance test, diabetes mellitus.
3. Biological oxidation-oxidative phosphorylation.
4. Lipid melabolism-lipogenrsis, systhrsis of fatty acid, de-saturation, phospholipids, biosynthesis of lectithine. Cephalin and their breakdown oxidation of fatty acids, formation and utilization of ketone bodies, ketosiss, synthesis and breakdown of cholesterol, disorders of lipids metabolism, outlines and formation and functions of prostaglandin’s and leucotrienes, fatty liver and lipotropic factors.
5. Metabolism of proteins and amino acids-Breakdown of tissue proteins, amino acids pool, general metabolism of amino acids, disposal of ammonia, urea cycle formation of glutamate and glutamine, disorders of amino acid metabolism.
6. Purine and Pyrimidine metabolism-Outline of synthesis and breakdown of purine and pyrimidine.

Chapter 2:(10 hours)
Medicine
General terms; Dysphagia, Dispepsia, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Constipation.
1. Gastritis
2. Peptic ulcers
3. Motility disorders
4. Inflammatory bowel diseases
5. Tuberculosis
6. Hepatic encephalopathy
7. Liver failure
8. Gall stones
9. Tumors

Chapter 3(10 hours)
Diagnosis
1. Plain radiograph
2. Endoscopy
3. Contrast studies
4. Ultrasound
5. Liver function tests
6. CT – Scan
7. MRI
8. Endoscopy
9. Tests of infection: bacterial culture, serology
10. Radio isotope tests

Chapter 4:(20 hours)
Treatment
Role of Yoga, Physiotherapy, Hydrotherapy, Nursing care etc.
