Pityriasis Rosacea typically begins with a solitary pink scaly patch (called the herald spot or patch) that heralds the eruption. This enlarges over a few days to become a patch with a ring of fine scaly skin just inside the border Rosacea is a common skin disorder which affects the facial area of the body. Pityriasis rosea (PR) is an acute and characteristic exanthem that has been described for more than 2 centuries. The primary plaque is seen on the skin in 50-90% of cases a week or more before the onset of the eruption of smaller lesions. This secondary eruption occurs 2-21 days later in crops following the lines of cleavage of the skin. and on the back, In the early stages, signs and symptoms of rosacea include redness and flushing which become more prevalent overtime. Blood vessels may become visible underneath the skin. In its advanced stage, the skin can become thickened and a condition known as rhinophyma can develop.. Pityriasis Rosacea has been linked to upper respiratory infections, can occur within families and close contacts, and is more frequent in children whose immune system is impaired. As with all viral rashes, it tends to be more common in autumn and spring. A number of viruses have been linked with it, human herpes virus 7 being a common cause. Within the next one to two weeks, a generalised rash usually appears, in a classic ‘Fir tree’ pattern on the back and chest. This second phase tends to get better over the next six weeks, but is very variable. Itchiness is common – in 75 per cent of affected children – and usually mild to moderate. In some children the rash is on the hands and face only.
Yoga has a good treatment for pitryasis as this condition is result of reduced immune efficiency Yoga being a holistic therapy acts on all the layers of existence thereby brining about homeostasis. Asanas help in building up the basic stamina. Pranayama practices like Nadisuddhi Pranayama help in breaking the loop between the emotional centres in the mind (Manomaya Kosa) and the body (Annamaya Kosa). Kriyas help in cleansing the body of immune complexes as discussed in our previous articles. Meditation helps in calming down the mind and thereby brings back the arousal of the nervous system which intern influences the immune system to the physiological base line.
UTTHANASANA
Sthiti: Tadasana
- Stand with legs apart, toes pointing outward. Clasp the fingers in front of the body.
- Inhale deeply, while exhaling bend the knees sideways over the toes. The upper body remains straight.
- Inhaling stand upright, keeping the back straight.
The exercise is practiced in three stages. With the first squatting movement the hands should reach thigh level. With the second, knee level, and with the third, calf level. During the squatting movement the trunk of the body should always remain upright.
Note: the knees should bend outwards in alignment with the toes, to help keep the knee stable. If there are problems with the knee, practice the first stage only. |
