Story – 22/11/2010

Mr. S, an 18 year old boy came to “Prashanti” and was moving around doing some practices like many young people do.  But he was slightly different from young boys of his age.  He was looking very quiet and kept to himself, would not talk to people of his age group and was looking dull and depressed.  After the routine check ups he was asked to talk about his stress levels.  Initially he said, he was working in a Call Centre and supporting himself and studying for graduation in commerce because he wanted to be a Chartered Accountant.  The doctors here, went a little deeper into his history and asked him what are your food habits, sleep timings and studying time.  He gave us the details that since he works in a Call Centre in the night, he would wake up at 10:30 / 11:00 in the morning and then start his day.  We found it unusual that the boy of 18 years in India is away from home.  When questioned, he said he was not eating properly, would make a quick sandwich and had irregular food habits, was losing weight and generally feeling low.  Doctors gradually asked him about his family, his parents.  He was hesitant initially and slowly opened up and said, he had an argument with his father and his father wanted him to be an Engineer and he wanted to be a Chartered Accountant.  So father told him he can be at home only if he start studying for engineering.  So this boy left home because he was driven in the ambition to become a Chartered Accountant and chart life in his own way.  He found a job for himself and started working and went to evening college and was studying as a PG.

His mother was torn between her husband and her son.  His mother was working in a Bank and he would meet her occasionally in a Cafeteria in the city.  His mother was always in tears every time she met him and was worried about her husband’s ire.  We gradually began to talked to his mother and also to his father and appraising them about the strong will of their son and slowly convinced them to accept the path chosen by him in his life.  It took a lot of persuasion on our part and the mother side to convince the father to accept boy’s determination and right to choose his own career.  Slowly Mr. S began to change himself and he developed a cordial relation with his parents.  He also began to pay attention to his food and sleep and started studying better because he felt he had a lot of support on “Prashanti”.  It was like a home to him now and he had reconciled with his parents.  He gradually began to be stronger and would visit Prashanti often and make friends of all the Bhaiyas and Didis here and felt he had a support system.  His health began to improve and now he is doing well in his college and as amicable and cordial relationship with his parents.  Doing Yoga everyday and managing his life style even though he works in a Call Centre with irregular timings has given him a lot of inner strength.  He is peace with himself and has become very productive and is very happy.  He is in his final year of graduation doing well and at college.  He thanks Prashanti for showing him the way and giving him a knowledge of right life style and bringing about the union with his parents.
